    Default job background
    Beskrivning

Biomass of lignocellulosic origin is produced in order of 14Gt/year and considered on the the major environment pollutants, but at the same time is the potential raw material to produce high value goods or energy.

In the last decades the enormous amount of low-value side streams and recalcitrant residues have reduce the sustainability of the biorefinery systems.

The ambition of this postdoctoral project is deeply characterized novel bio-based materials made by upgrading underutilized biomass with fungi. The project may also encompass a comprehensive life cycle assessment for evaluate the environmental impact of the hybrid materials.

In this postdoctoral position you will be part of the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC) at Chalmers, a highly collaborative research center.

Information about the division and the department Wallenberg Wood Science Center () is a research center striving of scientific excellence with focus on new materials from tress. The center creates knowledge and builds competences for an innovative and sustainable future value creating from forest raw materials. WWSC is a multidisciplinary collaboration between KTH, Chalmers and Linköping University. The base is a donation from Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and the forest industry is supporting WWSC via national platform Treesearch.
At the in the group of Assistant Prof.

Amparo Jiménez Quero, you will be working with a multidisciplinary and multicultural set of researchers with a broad background in biomass utilization, from enzymatic degradation to molecular characterization of biomass polymers and further material formulation.

IndBio division and the WWSC are very well equipment with infrastructure related to the project goals.

Major responsibilities As a postdoctoral researcher, your major duties is devote to your research project, where you will be responsible for planing, running experiments and evaluation the scientific outcome. Moreover, you will be involved in the co-supervision of master and PhD students and in the participation of research activities within the group.

Qualifications The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Material Science, Polymer Technology, Biotechnology or similar. The candidate must have experience and high developed skills in biomaterial characterization and application, and experience in performing life cycle analysis is advantageous. Laboratory experience in biomass transformation in materials and fungal fermentation is meritorious but most importantly a good track record of experience in multidisciplinary work.
