    Beskrivning

Transport is at the core of modern society. Imagine using your expertise to shape sustainable transport solutions for the future? If you seek to make a difference on a global scale, working with next-gen technologies and the sharpest collaborative teams, then we could be a perfect match.

    What you will do

    Master Thesis for biobased fiber

The demand for environment-friendly polymers is increasing continuously in certain applications. A substantial reduction in environmental impact can be achieved by choosing recycled polymer. Using recycled polymers such as recycled PP, ABS, etc. a way towards fining lower carbon footprint plastic components for the thermoformed interior and exterior parts for construction machines. Replacement with a higher mechanical strength polymer composite where bio-based fibers are used in the recycled polymer matrix can reduce the carbon footprint twofold by increasing durability, use life, and resource impact. This project aims to explore the feasibility of utilizing natural fibers in recyclable thermoplastics, ABS, PC, PP, and PMMA, through injection molding and hot press techniques.

This project is aimed at integrating natural fibers into recyclable thermoplastics, ABS, PCBS, and PMMA through advanced processing techniques. The focus will be on enhancing the mechanical properties of these materials. This thesis work aims to evaluate different types of biobased fiber for the case study of Cab interior cover considering the material, life cycle analysis, and environmental perspective to find the one qualifying better in replacing fossil-based polymer for representative implementation.

    The main activities are:

The project combines experimental work in the laboratory (lab-based) with theoretical investigations. In the laboratory, we will conduct intricate processing techniques such as injection molding and hot press to create composite samples. These samples will undergo comprehensive mechanical testing to evaluate their performance. Theoretical aspects involve analysing data, optimizing formulations, and predicting outcomes. Life cycle analysis of the suitable alternatives. A full report of the work should be prepared and presented at Volvo CE and University of Borås.

    What's needed for this opportunity

    Collaboration

The project will involve collaboration between VCE and University of Borås. This collaboration aims to align the research outcomes with industry requirements and ensure practical applicability

This master's thesis (60 ECTS-30 ECTS at VCE and 30 ECTS atUniversity of Borås) is suitable for one or two master's students who are completing their studies in polymer, material, or mechanical engineering.
